The crowd that is looking on is horrified, but what are we gonna do, jump in front of the car? But when it hits, there isn’t the sound of an explosion like in the movies. My ears are piecing things together, taking faint snippets from the air, the crash sounding in slow motion and I start to hum ‘should old acquaintance be forgot…’ It’s Auld Lang Syne! And the fireworks are shooting into the sky, like it’s New Year’s Eve. Of course, it’s the middle of September, but I think all of us felt like a new year started that night…”
